The Ashley River Creative Arts PTA will be a powerful voice for all children,a relevant resource for families and communities and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.
Aloha ARCAE Parents!
May 14th-May 18th is Teacher Appreciation Week at ARCAE! This is a special time that you and your child(ren) can show your teacher(s) how much we appreciate their time, talent (and patience) !
During this week, something special is planned everyday for our teachers. Our theme for the week takes us to the beautiful islands of Hawaii. You will see "Mahalo Kumu" around the school during this week. This means "Thank you, teacher" in Hawaiian. Below is a list of what is planned. Volunteers will be needed to assist with some of the week's island "events". Please let us know if you will be able to help out. Thanks!
Monday May 14th "Mahalo Kumu" (Thank You, Teacher!!) notes. Teachers will be thrilled to have a letter, drawing or both made by your children!
These can be turned in today and as the week goes on! Teachers will be presented with welcoming leis to wear all week and a macadamia nut/chocolate candy treat provided by PTA.
Tuesday May 15th
Hawaiian Luau with food prepared by Chef Anthony Di Bernardo. Several volunteers will be needed for this day. We will need 1 volunteer from each class to watch your teacher's class during their lunchtime. We will also need volunteers to help set up/decorate beforehand and clean-up/take down afterwards. Flowers used for decorating will be raffled off to teachers.( Also, if you play the ukulele, please let us know!)
Wednesday May 16th Bring your teacher a pau (flower)! Hawaii is known for her beautiful flowers. Have your child proudly bring a flower from your garden or the store. Potted plants are always nice too. Vases will be in every room waiting to be filled!:)
Thursday May 17th Tropical Hua'ai (fruit) Smoothie Day! Teachers will be given a choice of two types of healthy, fruit-filled smoothies that will be delivered to their classrooms (in tropical cups with umbrellas and straws, of course!) in the morning. Volunteers will be needed to help make the smoothies and deliver them.
Friday May 18th Makana (gift) Day! Children may bring in a small gift or gift card for their teachers. Some ideas include: $5 gift cards to Dollar Tree, Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, Subway, Chic-Fil-A...etc. This will also be Sweets and Coffee Day. Donuts/tropical fruit and Kona Hawaiian coffee will be provided for the teachers.
*Please don't forget your special area teachers!!*
Many items that are donated from various businesses (or bought by PTA) will be raffled off all week for the teachers. If you know of any businesses that would like to donate towards our raffle, please let us know! Anything tropical is encouraged!

Dear Parents of ARCAE
The Charleston County School District is embarking on a journey of continued excellence with 'Charleston Achieving Excellence: Vision 2016'. As a school district, we want to be recognized as a great place for students to learn, teachers to teach, employees to work, and parents to send their children for an excellent education. In order to be successful, we need your help; we want and need to hear from you.
Please take a few minutes and complete the parent satisfaction survey found at this link
It will take about 10 minutes to complete the survey. In addition, this survey is being administered and analyzed by an outside group - Studer Education so all your comments will remain confidential. Survey closes Friday, May 18.
Parents should complete the survey and place in a sealed envelope or in a sealed repository at your school. All unopened surveys must be returned to your school in time to allow the courier or your designee to deliver to Audrey Lane by Tuesday, May 22. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Audrey Lane at Audrey_Lane@Charleston.k12.sc.us or 937-6401.
It is really important for us to get feedback and we do use it. We had a great number respond in the fall and we are hoping for an even better one in the spring. If you have have any concerns or questions, you are welcome to call the school anytime.

Our school is a magnet school ,which requires you ,as a parent ,to provide all the required address confirmation paperwork to the Charleston County School District,confirming that you live in Zone 10 ( West Ashley)
Residency verification paperwork came home in your child's Friday Folder last week .
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT !
We must have current address paperwork on file for every child you have at ARCAE for the start of school in August 2012.
All paperwork MUST be turned in by the end of May 2012
The documents require your signature to be notarized. We will be happy to provide that service for you FREE OF CHARGE in the school office.
There will be a Notary in the school office every Tuesday and Thursday from now until May 31st
