Parents & Teachers for the Students

Matching a $15,000 grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission with funds from the PTA is what allows our school to enjoy the full spectrum of the arts in education. Other money from fundraisers and PTA memberships provides funds to every grade level and special area to help in purchasing a variety of things that help our educational process work. The kindergarten will now enjoy their playground area out of direct sunlight with a new artistic canopy paid for with PTA funds. What we do as a PTA is touted as “the way to do it” by members of the state association. We are recognized as a fully functional, well organized, family involved PTA that has as its mission a clear plan to support our students and equip our teachers.
The National PTA office announced an increase in the portion of our dues that is paid to them. This is the first increase in several years. Beginning this August, there will be an increase of $1.00 for individual memberships in our PTA. That means our membership dues will be $4.00 per person. In consultation with our administrators and PTA Board of Directors, we have decided to put a ceiling on family memberships and add a category called Supporting Members. The bottom line is memberships will be $4.00 per person, $10.00 for a family and $5.00 each for Supporting Members.
You will be able to purchase a Family Membership to cover both parents and all the children. This category is for immediate family members only. Supporting Members are extended family members, Business Partners (Business Partners fees are separate) and others who would like to support the school and the work of the PTA.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of our school. Last year was the first year we did not reach our 200% membership goal in the entire history of the school. We fully understand the strains our current economic climate is putting on everyone. Your PTA has set our goal at the equivalent of 200% again this year. Help us reach that goal by purchasing a family membership and Supporting Memberships for others in your family.

As many of you all know, work on our Bus Loop garden project is well underway. The first planting session happened on Nov 19th and was a great success
We consulted with a local garden center to seek some advice about how to beautify the bus loop area. We now have a plan with a list of possible native plants to put in place. We will purchase more plants this winter and plant them in early spring 2012 with voluntee r help. We plan more wax myrtles, camellias and azaleas, along with some small shrubs grouped in that expansive area. It could be quite lovely in just a couple of years.
Click HERE to view the landscape plan ,designed by Jeff Jackson.
If your child's class would like to honor a teacher with a plant donation, we would be thrilled. PTA has agreed to collect any money received and place it in their Grounds Fund. The garden center has agreed to give us a discount on the plants we purchase.
If you decide to join us in our campaign to beautify our bus loop, we thank you for your support. Someday, we hope to see groups of children sitting on benches reading with their class, surrounded by a scenic lowcountry garden of plants
